Q & A

This blog post is for those of you who have questions. They can be questions about me, life, love, the world, what-have-you.

I don't profess to be an expert on anything. I'm not even an expert on myself -- I'm working on that. But if you've got a question, I will try my best to answer it.

In the meantime, here's a question for you, inspired by the picture I found below on we heart it:

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

The last time I did something for the first time was last Friday when I tried taro frozen yogurt for the first time... and absolutely loved it. :-D

This is a really amazing question because it makes me consider just how often I do (or don't!) things for the first time. So easy to get stuck in our routines! I recently did my first blog exchange (a mixed cd exchange) and I totally loved it and signed up for another exchange pronto. :)

that question made me realize that i must be incredibly boring. i knew i was anal about routines, but i think it may be time to live a little!

so my answer is, and it's not something amazing... today was the first time i did not feed a dog that showed up at my house. it wasn't because i didn't want to, but it was because chris was home and he told me i'd better not. :(

my question for you...
i knew someone many years ago who was cuban, and she talked often of how strict and traditional her parents were, and i got the idea that it was common in cuban families 9but maybe i'm wrong). were your parents very strict and traditional with you, or did you feel like they were the same as any other non-cuban parents?

i hope that isn't weird, but i'm always curious about how kids grow up when their parents aren't from the u.s.

@Claire: Did you do the Brown Paper Packages exchange? That was my first time doing an exchange like that and it was a blast. I'm dying to do another one. =)

@Danielle: Aw, poor doggy! Why didn't Chris want you feeding it? Because he'd show up again ... with friends? ;) And to answer your question, although my parents were both teenagers when they moved from Cuba to Florida (in fact, they met here, in Miami), they brought their traditions with them. So, yes, they were strict with me growing up. But since I grew up in a largely Cuban-American community, their strictness didn't make me feel out of place. My friends growing up would groan with me over unreasonable curfews, having to go on dates with chaperons, that sort of thing. The good news is that they let up after I started college. Looking back now, I don't resent them for being so protective because I know that was just how they were raised. I will probably be like that a little too with my future kids!

my dad was incredibly strict (military, i suppose), but i'm glad he was so i didn't run around like a teenage dirtbag getting in trouble like some of my friends!

i had to let you know, the dog came back on my porch to get out of the rain i guess, and since chris isn't here, i gave her 6 dog treats and a bowl of food!

it's differnt living in the country, i guess because there are so many more strays than in the city, but people here have the idea that you can't feed a stray because it will hang around. little do they know, i WANT the animals to hang around! i love them all!

@Danielle: In the city where I live, we have a lot of strays too. I once even saw a raccoon! So I can understand the reticence for feeding strays. I feed them all anyways -- much to my family's discontent. :-D
