I don't remember when I first heard of the British chanteuse PJ Harvey. (I think it was sometime in grade school, I don't know.) But I do know this -- it was a life-altering moment. I felt as though PJ Harvey were singing directly to me, as though her voice was a conduit straight into my soul.
She has been compared to Bjork and Patti Smith. But honestly? I think her voice is singularly hers. She often sounds as though she is on the verge of tears when she's singing, the tremors shaking across the lyrics. Her lyrics themselves are profound, heavy with meaning. I tend to like artists who not only write their own music, but who write interesting music, lyrically and sonically speaking. PJ Harvey always writes interesting music -- I own all of her albums and love them all.
The song below is one of my all-time favorites of hers, "Send His Love To Me." The strings in it are to die for... Enjoy! And don't forget to tell me what you're listening to this week in the comments. =)
