Itsy, Bitsy Phobia

We all have fears. For some of us, it's what goes "bump" in the night. For others, it may be the dark, or heights, or speaking in public, or being alone. Things like that. But do you want to know what makes my pulse race, what makes me absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt terrified?

Here, I'll show you:

Yeah, spiders. In any shape, size, color, variety. Although, obviously, the bigger the baddie, the louder my scream. And I'm not much of a screamer, just ask Ricky. I can sit quietly through the scariest horror flick (with my hands over my eyes, true), ride the tallest roller coaster without making a sound (although it is fun to yell, isn't it?), and I'm A-OK. No problem.

But the second you stick me and one of those eight-legged atrocities into the same enclosed space, I go ape.

True story - last night, Ricky and I were parking at the Toys R' Us near my house, and as I was getting ready to take off my seat-belt, I happened to look up and see something black on the roof of the car near Ricky's seat... something black and crawly... with eight legs.

Reader, I could not get out of that car fast enough. In my haste, I got tangled in the seat-belt, tangled in my purse, but I did not let these obstacles hinder me. No, sirree, I was going to get out of that car even if it meant losing a limb, such was my terror. In fact, the contents of my purse wound up scattered on the parking lot and had to be re-collected. All the residents of Hialeah, my hometown, no doubt think I am a crazy woman. No matter. At least I was safe from the spider.

I made Ricky take it out of the car, professing that no way in heck would I get back in said car if that creature remained within. Well, he wound up killing the spider, not because he wanted to, but because the thing was so damn fast he wound up crushing it. Yes, it made me a little sad, but I must confess - I felt relieved, too.

So that's my phobia. What's yours?

I hate spiders and I have no problem killing them. Blech!

I am claustrophobic big time. Sometimes when my hubby tries to cuddle up to me and the covers are too tight,it freaks me out.

I don't like spiders either...but my greatest phobia is really stupid. I am deathly afraid of big buildings. It's kinda the opposite of claustrophobia. I need to look it up and see if their is an actual name for it. I actually have a hard time breathing. So stupid.

Lauren - There is a phobia of big buildings! I remember reading about it when I took a psych course in undergrad. Let me hunt it up for you. I'll let you know when I find it.

i am afraid of big wide open spaces indoors.

and being on my own.... i HATE being on my own. that's called autophobia, apparently.

Lar, batophobia is a fear of being near to high buildings... that's the best i could find.

did you guys know there's such thing as a fear of having peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth? arachibutyrophobia. no joke.

oh, and i'm also mildly anuptaphobic... unreasonably scared that i will never find someone who will want to be with me forever. yes... stupidish.

and i hate stairs, which would be bathmophobia or climacophobia... but i don't know if i'm scared enough to call it a phobia. you only start realising how many "phobias" you have when you start reading the list of them! ;)

the lady we're staying with at present just said something like, "i can't believe you'd spend so long blogging and talking to people you don't even know, Hannah!"

*sigh* i love you guys, that's why :)

Aw, we love you, too, Hannah! And thanks for letting me know about all those phobias. I had no idea that you could be scared of peanut butter being stuck to the roof of your mouth!

Hey Ana!

I am claustrophobic! If someone sits next to me and I wind up in the middle, I have to get up. I have to be on the end of seats. I once turned down a job because I refused to take the elevator upstairs (at the time the stairs were inaccessible) Can we say fire code violation?! I have actually worked on the eleveator thing since thing, but too many people, it's stair city for me! lol. The idea of being closed in some tight space completely freaks me out.

Good question! Check out the pics I put on Eyes Tell Stories....I hope you like them!
